Changelog

New features, improvements and fixes shipped to PDF Tools. Every release keeps the same promise: your files never leave your device.

v1.2.0

New design system, dark mode and accessibility pass

The whole app has been rebuilt on the App Blueprint design system: a slim topbar, dot-grid canvas, shadcn-style primitives, the Geist typeface (self-hosted, so there are still no third-party requests) and a bottom navigation bar on phones.

  • Dark mode. Follows your system preference, with a toggle in the topbar that remembers your choice.
  • Accessibility. Skip link, proper landmarks and headings, an ARIA toolbar with arrow-key navigation in the editor, live announcements when files are reordered, larger touch targets and reduced-motion support.
  • SEO. Structured data (WebApplication, FAQ and breadcrumbs), social preview images, a web manifest and an updated sitemap.
  • Landing page. New “Why PDF Tools” and FAQ sections, plus a “How it works” guide on each tool.
v1.1.0

Google Fonts and signatures in the editor

The editor can now use any of 1,900+ Google Fonts. Search the catalogue, pick a family, and on export the font file is fetched, subset to the characters you used and embedded into the PDF. Google is only contacted when you actually choose a Google font; the standard fonts stay fully offline.

  • Signature and image upload. Add a PNG, JPEG, SVG or WebP, tap to place it, drag to move and use the corner handle to scale. Transparency is preserved.
  • Sharing metadata. Author, Open Graph and Twitter tags on every page.
v1.0.0

Initial release: merge and edit PDFs in the browser

PDF Tools launches with two utilities that run entirely client-side with pdf-lib and pdf.js. No accounts, no backend, no database.

  • Merge. Combine multiple PDFs, reorder by drag or arrow buttons, export one file. Pages are copied object-for-object so nothing is rasterised.
  • Edit. Add text anywhere on a page with Helvetica, Times or Courier; set size, colour, bold, italic and alignment; text is embedded natively on export.
